| Put the location of the pic between [img] [/img] with no spaces. It's gotta be hosted somewhere, though, like Flickr. |

TheWatch,
Your C-change grip is good food for discussion--there is a school of thought that says every grip, except the splitter/forkball of course, should have the thumb and middle finger exactly splitting the baseball in two equal halves.
My kid can't do that with a C-change grip, so he throws a split-finger FB for his changeup pitch. Also, the C-change is typically thrown with almost screwball-like pronation, right? That also seems more difficult than the splitter.
Do you have the command that you want with your C-change? |

i have a super slow motion video clip of pedro throwing his change up from the hitters on hitting: finding the sweet spot dvd. his ring finger and thumb cut the ball into 2 equal halves with the middle finger riding along the side of the ball. it's a little tough to see but it is there when he brings his hand to the high cocked position.
my son actually throws his change up now off his ring and pinky fingers. if you use a parallell (bad spelling) 2 seam fastball grip placing the fingers along the 2 seams instead of across the 2 seams where they are the closest and the thumb directly under them on the closest seam to your hand, keep you thumb in the same place and move the ball over until your ring and pinky finger are riding parallell on top of the seams where they are the closest.
this is a wild grip, and it's taken us a full 6 months to throw it for strikes, but the results speak for themselves, a 12 to 15 mph difference from the fastball. combine that with a hard curveball (8-10 mph difference) and it's a tough combination of speed changes. you just throw your best fastball off the end of those fingers (pulling the hand through release at about a 45' angle (crossing the "X" in front of you) and it does all the work. you don't have to turn it over or anything. looks like your best fastball coming out of the hand and it never gets there. may run a little bit to the throwing hand side of the plate but not much (doesn't have to at that speed).
it takes a while, but it's worth it. some guys will have a field day with this, but if you can throw it during long toss or from one end of a 70' cage to the other with any kind of back spin and velocity on it, you're getting close.
have at it boys, don't like to share my good secrets but we'll see what you think. |
